WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is becoming increasingly well-known as an alternative therapy used to promote stress-management, relaxation and personal healing. Reiki works by bringing energy through the therapist and into the person, animal or plant under the therapist’s hands.

This energy is familiar as the life force energy we use to run our bodies – it is similar to the energy known as Ki, Chi, Prana & by other names.

Reiki energy is said to come from the universe or from the “highest source”. The practice of Reiki is not associated with any religion or system of belief.

LEARNING REIKI

The ability to use Reiki therapy is “learnt” by a process called attunement, in which a qualified Master/Teacher passes the ability to do Reiki to the student. Students also learn about the origins & principles of Reiki, where to place their hands when providing treatment to themselves and others, and what to expect as the outcome of receiving a Reiki treatment.

Anyone can choose to learn Reiki. It is simple, non-threatening, there are no pre-requisites & no exams! No-one fails Reiki class.

Reiki classes can be very uplifting and fun as well. The attunement provides a great deal of beneficial energy to each individual and students learn – literally hands-on – how to manage the energy that flows from their hands after attunement.

Reiki is suitable for people of all ages and there can be benefit in couples, families or friends being attuned together and learning how to provide and receive healing, comfort and support through their “switched on” hands. People who are unwell or troubled, carers, parents, retirees and those who are seeking more meaningful lives can all benefit from learning Reiki.

Students of Reiki are encouraged to take an interest in their own health and well-being, to learn more about their physical, psychological and emotional makeup and needs and to be responsible and aware in dealing with their own issues at any level.

CHOOSING A REIKI MASTER/TEACHER

Reiki is deeply personal & you need to find a Master/Teacher with whom you feel comfortable & confident – the key word is “resonate”.

Because Reiki is not government regulated in Australia, you should talk to prospective Reiki Masters/Teachers and ask some questions before you decide who you want to teach and attune you.

• Ask about lineage – this is the “ancestry” of the Master/Teacher. Their lineage should trace back unbroken to Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki. Will you receive a copy of the Reiki Master’s lineage?
• Do they attune you in person, hands-on?
• Do you receive a certificate?
• Do they provide follow up support? For example practice groups or telephone contact?
• Can you receive assistance with personal healing and development e.g. additional classes, individual therapy or intensive healing sessions?
• Is the Master/Teacher located locally or are they away interstate and overseas much or all of the time?
• Can you complete further Reiki training with this Master/ Teacher by learning Reiki II and even Mastership in time?
• Does the Master/Teacher have a registered business name?
• Is the Master/Teacher a member of a professional association?

ETHICAL REIKI PRACTICES

Reiki is intended for use by “ordinary” people who are willing to undertake compassionate action within their lives, either for their own benefit or to help loved ones and friends. Reiki comes from the “highest source” and can do no harm.

When a Reiki Practitioner or Master/Teacher provides you with therapy or instruction, you should be confident that they are operating in accordance with ethical standards and with normally accepted good business practice. Only accept professional Reiki services from a provider who has a business name and ABN, who is insured and who belongs to a Reiki professional association.

The Council of Australian Reiki Organisations Ltd. (CARO) is a national body providing registration of Reiki associations and standards for ethical Reiki practice in Australia. Their website is www.caro.org.au.

KARUNA REIKI®

Karuna Reiki® builds upon the platform provided by the Usui System of Reiki.

Karuna Reiki® consists of an advanced level of training available to experienced Usui Reiki Masters.

Karuna Reiki® refers to “compassionate action” that is undertaken to diminish the suffering of others. It is an effective and powerful system which operates at higher emotional and spiritual levels and can help one become more grounded.

Karuna Reiki® is trademarked to ensure that it is taught and handed down in its original form.

Bona fide independent teachers of Karuna Reiki® are registered with the International Centre for Reiki Training in the USA and must provide their students with manuals and certificates sourced from ICRT.

Asia Pacific Reiki Institute Masters are not only registered to teach Karuna Reiki®, but also function as the Karuna Reiki® Registrars for Australia and New Zealand.

Asia Pacific Reiki Institute conducts regular Karuna Reiki® training programs

• Karuna Reiki® Master/Teacher training

Admission to this training will be on the basis of individual assessment and at the discretion of Asia Pacific Reiki Institute. Intending applicants require at a minimum to have completed Reiki Master/Teacher training in accordance with the Reiki Benchmarks, specifically teaching and initiation (Attunement) hands on by an appropriately trained Usui Reiki Master/Teacher.

Karuna Reiki® Master classes may also be scheduled in interstate and international venues

Graduates may choose to join the Karuna Reiki® Chapter of the Australasian Usui Reiki Association (AURA) Inc.
